Smoke opacity testing for older diesel trucks, RVs, and fleets. At your yard, or at our shop in Glendora.
What is a smoke opacity test?
It measures how much smoke comes out of a diesel exhaust. We use a certified smoke meter while the engine revs. Cleaner exhaust lets more light through, and that’s what passes.
Who needs one?
Diesel vehicles over 14,000 lbs GVWR with a 2012 or older engine. Those trucks get a smoke opacity test plus a visual check of the emissions parts as part of CARB’s Clean Truck Check.
Newer diesels (2013 and up) get an OBDII scan instead. We do those too.
We come to you
We bring the equipment to your yard and test your trucks where they’re parked. Local visits are free. Outside our area there may be a small travel fee, and we’ll always tell you first.
Rather bring it to us? Our Route 66 shop takes the long ones too.
Tips for a smooth test
- Warm the engine up before we get there.
- Fix any known exhaust leaks or warning lights first.
- Have your CTC-VIS login handy.
